I can actually speak from experience on this one. I wanted to bring attention to the different reasons why you should get a Free blog or you should host your own blog. I have listed below the pros and cons of each

FREE BLOG PROS

• You don't have to pay for monthly hosting costs.
• You can get your own domain name and forward it to your free blog
• You can make money using Adsense on your blog.

FREE BLOG CONS

• The Free Blog host can delete your blog at anytime
• You don't own your blog.
• You have restrictions as to what you can do with you blog.

HOST YOUR OWN BLOG PROS

• You get your own Domain Name
• You OWN your blog and the content on it
• You get your own email address for your own domain

HOST YOUR OWN BLOG CONS

• Knowledge of setting up Web Hosting and Blog Installation
• Monthly Costs ($10/mo)

In conclusion, if you are just starting out and want a blog for personal use then getting a free blog is a great choice. My suggestions for free blogs are Blogger.com and WordPress.com.

Now if you are starting a blog because you want to make money with it then I really suggest that you host your own blog. That way all the time and effort you put into your blog will not be put to waste.
