Resources For Teaching Your Baby To Sign

Today I have a guest post from:

Misty Weaver – Chief Editor of Baby Sign Language

Baby Sign Language on Facebook

Baby Sign Language is a fun activity for you and your baby to do together, that also helps your baby develop. To help you get started there are a lot of resources available on the internet to get you started today, including our website

So what are you waiting for!

You can get started by learning a few starter signs that you can repeat with your child.  The easiest signs to get started with are words that you can use a lot with baby and represent things important to her such as mom, dad, eat, and drink.  You can see a list of starter sign and video tutorials on how to do each here.

As you gather steam and baby starts to do more signing you can start gently increasing her vocabulary.  A great way to do that is to incorporate flash cards based games into your daily routine.  You can find printable baby sign language flash cards online on our site.  We suggest printing a group of cards along a common theme such as animal flash cards and using them together.  Go through all the cards, making animal noises as you go to make this more fun for baby.

As baby's vocabulary expands even more, and you want to learn less common signs individual to your baby, you can turn to one of the many online ASL dictionaries.  These dictionaries include literally thousands of signs covering virtually every topic.

What I Learned From The Ultimate Blog Challenge

I had a lot of fun being involved in the Ultimate Blog Challenge. I was really excited to see others that had been in the previous blog challenges with me. I should have known how to prioritize my time, but I actually slipped behind and have been trying to catch up for days. I am really disappointed in myself, but I know that my family comes first and my daughter did get her first cold during this month. And with that said I am a mom first and then a blogger. I just have to get myself back on a schedule and in a routine. I want to Thank both Michelle Shaeffer and Michele Scism for hosting this great event! The Ultimate Blog Challenge

If you haven't tried participating in a blog challenge you should really check them out.

PS – When I hear about another one I will make sure to announce it here on J'z Place

Find Local Businesses To Market Your Services To

I came across a really cool site today…It's called Manta.com. Manta is the largest Free source for information on small business. Here is what they say about themselves:

About Manta

Manta is the largest free source of information on small companies, with profiles of more than 64 million businesses and organizations. Business owners and sales professionals use Manta's vast database and custom search capabilities to quickly find companies, easily connect with prospective customers and promote their own services. Manta.com, founded in 2005, is based in Columbus, Ohio.

I couldn't believe how easy it was to find new clients and network with other business owners. I like the fact that you can find businesses by location and by topic. But what I thought was really cool is that you can search for new businesses. Check out the chart below that shows how many new businesses formed in the last 3 weeks.

Businesses in the U.S.

I really suggest anyone who needs local clients to check out Manta. You won't be disappointed!

Planning My Daughter’s 2nd Birthday

I can't believe my little girl is going to be 2 already. It seems like yesterday that she was born and now she is walking and talking and into everything. The last two celebrations have been chaos and so this year I want to do something that she will enjoy doing. We decided to take her to the Fair. She has been seeing the commercial and gets really excited when they show all the animals. She has never been on a ride like the carousel with horses. I am really excited for her to get to experience everything. I really didn't want to have to plan some big party so instead I just invited family and close friends to join us at the fair.

What did you do for your child's 2nd birthday?

Stay Tuned I will be posting pictures….
